C’est la Vie

It is finally getting chilly outside! (I say as I knock on wood because, well, it’s Alabama…) I’ve been piling up my favorite cold-weather accessories, willing for the day I’ll actually get to wear them. From my green Tartan Gloves from Target (who, by the way, has the best selection of chic winter gloves IMO) to my staple Green Hunter Boots, I can’t wait to incorporate these pieces I’ve been long-awaiting. If the temperature goes back up to 80 degrees next week, well…c’est la vie.

Y’all may have noticed that I’m a little navy-obsessed lately, and trust me, this won’t be the last time you see it! I love this oversized navy sweater from The Mint Julep Boutique with the cute “C’est la Vie” inscription on it! Here, I have it tucked in to add some shape to my look, but it’s actually really long, so it’s easy to style with your favorite pair of skinny jeans as well! Graphic tees are everything right now, and this sweater is the perfect way to transition that trend into a new season.

I paired the navy sweater with a contrasting red suede skater skirt, also from The Mint Julep Boutique! This flirty “Show Your Soft Side” skirt is a perfect flattering length that will also be great to wear over tights when it really gets cold this winter! This color combo of red + berry jewel tones is one you can’t go wrong with this season.

PSA: You are allowed to rock rainboots even when it’s not raining. (Cue the gasps) Seriously, if you’re going to splurge on a nice pair of really good looking rainboots, get some wear out of them! I opted for the more traditional hunter green color when selecting mine, though I’ve definitely had my eye on some more daring color options, like these in pink and these in red.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I could resist picking up these green and navy tartan gloves from Target! Adding a preppy accessory here and there can take an outfit to a 10 in a split second.

I also added a few long-time staples, including my monogram cuff from Ex Voto Vintage and my custom “Have A Wesley Day” gold bangle from Taudrey! These gorgeous statement pieces have lasted me season after season, and truly add a unique touch to any outfit.

Another life update: I’m currently taking a film photography class, hence the film camera featured here! It’s quite a challenging hobby to take up, but it adds a completely different aspect to truly learning the ins and outs of photography, if that’s something that interests you! Pretty much everywhere (in Alabama, at least) has stopped selling film cameras, film, and everything needed to process it, but if you’re interested in getting to know the lost art, I highly recommend shopping at B&H for all of your needs!

Chic In Pink

It’s no secret that I can be a bit of a girly girl when it comes to dressing myself. I’m naturally drawn to pieces in a pink color scheme, but to keep these pieces from going overboard 5-year-old style, I love adding chic accessories to add a little punch. Life update: I recently started working at Soca Clothing as their Stylist and Social Media Specialist (a.k.a. the most fun job ever!), and that’s where I scored the chic pink sweater featured in this post! Their flagship store is located in Nashville, TN, but they also have stores in Birmingham, AL and Tuscaloosa, AL.

I couldn’t resist this cozy pink sweater as soon as I spotted it! Spoiler Alert: It’s currently on sale for $49.99 at the Tuscaloosa branch of Soca! I love how its shape creates an updated take on the classic cableknit sweater to become more flattering and feminine. I especially love its wide bell sleeves and thick collar that I think give it a very ‘runway’ look.

To amp up this look, I added my staple black skinny jeans and the sassiest heels I own. Would you believe me if I told you I scored these snakeskin pumps for only $35?

These Margaret Elizabeth earrings above and the Kendra Scott drusy ring below are part of my Rocksbox set from this month. If you’ve been keeping up with my recent posts, you already know that you can get a whole month of Rocksbox free with my code “wesleydayshawxoxo”! Through Rocksbox, you’ll receive designer jewelry every month, personalized to your tastes, delivered to your door! Above is my favorite All In One Bag from Gigi New York in bone embossed python and a few favorite picks from Soca’s ring collection! (Can you tell I’m a little drusy obsessed this year?)

October Blues

October is by far one of my favorite months, from the emerging colors of fall to the yearly release of the Pumpkin Spice Latte…call me basic! However, the weather in October (at least in Alabama) can be extremely unpredictable, which can mean some trying times for your wardrobe. Admittedly, I get a little ahead of myself sometimes in breaking out a full fall wardrobe, but there is always a way to incorporate some of your favorite fall pieces while still cooperating with the weather.

This look incorporates some of my favorite pieces of clothing from Riffraff, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters. This combination of a chunky sweater + a plaid skirt + suede booties + a felt hat is one I’m sure to have on repeat all throughout the season.

Let’s talk about my sweater problem: for lack of a better reason, I’m a total grandma and am pretty much only attracted to chunky, oversized sweaters when I’m out shopping. This Shaggy Looped Sweater from Riffraff was no exception! My roommate even compared me to looking like Cher from Clueless as I walked out the door…I’m taking this as a compliment.

This plaid skirt is an oldie from Forever 21, and has been a staple in my fall wardrobe for a few years now! It exudes the prep-school vibe I love so much (Hello, Serena Van Der Woodsen!), and shows off a little leg. Pair with some black tights once it gets a little colder, or a deep crimson if you’re feeling extra daring!

A felt hat, like this one from Urban Outfitters, has been one of my favorite purchases that’s been by my side for the longest! I’ve been seeing tons of felt hats over the past few years, and they truly take an outfit to the next level! A hat somehow gives me a boost of confidence that I am owning my look, so my challenge to you is to not let this accessory scare you off and give it a try!

Mark my words: you are going to need a fabulous pair of suede booties for this fall. I’m wearing the Stand Up Straight Bootie from Riffraff, and I can’t get enough! They really add that pop you need when your outfit isn’t quite there yet, plus, booties are totally on trend for this season! Shop all of Riffraff’s bootie collection here!

These gold arrowhead studs are also from Riffraff, and this drusy stone pendant is from Kendra Scott! I’ve seen this necklace on so many people I know lately, so you know it must be great! Sometimes I like to shy away from trends that are getting too standard, but this piece is so simple that you can truly make it your own with the right styling!

What are some of your wardrobe staples for this fall?! Let me know in the comments so I can give them a go too! Happy October, and Have A Wesley Day!

Say Yes to the Dress

My very favorite thing to shop for is a great cocktail dress! Especially during this time in my life, you can never predict when a formal event will pop up on your calendar, between sorority events and (gasp!) weddings. (I really am getting old.) If you find a dress that fits the bill for a classic, yet show-stoppingly unique party dress, I simply can’t allow you to say no, even if there’s nothing specifically on your calendar yet. Just being a friend, here!

That being said, I simply couldn’t pass up this stunning Classic Hepburn Midi Dress from my current favorite online boutique, Riffraff. (You’ve heard me talk about them time and time again, and they keep stepping it up!) Okay, it’s no secret: if you name anything after Audrey Hepburn, 99% percent of the time I’ll convince myself that I need it. But more than that, this has been one of my favorite buys ever.

I feel like a lady, y’all! This dress is the perfect blend of a 50’s housewife, mixed with the ever-popular midi skirt of this season. Leg-baring bandage dresses may have their time and place, but I truly think an effortlessly classic look like this trumps skin-tight every time.

Here is my general rule for getting dressed: flaunt what ya got, but only pick one “main event,” if you will. I love the low back on this dress that shows just the right amount of skin.

The color of this dress is perfect for any fall event, including weddings! Fall weddings can be tough sometimes, as you’ll want to stay with a darker color scheme without looking like you’re mourning the marriage. This season, jewel tones are going to be the answer to your prayers! Pair this navy dress with a vibrant fuchsia suede pump, and you’ll be turning heads all night.

Speaking of jewels, you can’t leave the house without a little sparkle! The pieces I’m wearing here all came inside of this month’s Rocksbox! I can’t get over how their stylists have consistently picked pieces that perfectly match my style. Snag your own box for free the first month with the code “wesleydayshawxoxo.”

I’ve been lovin’ on this Loren Hope cuff for quite some time now, and it’s a piece that I’ve happily added to my personal collection after purchasing it from Rocksbox! These crystal earrings from Perry Street are a fabulous go-to for any special occasion.

Before you leave, don’t forget your party favors! Use the code “wesleyshaw” for 15% off your purchase from Riffraff, and the code “wesleydayshawxoxo” for a free month of Rocksbox (a $29 value!). Also, be sure to hit up the fabulous Riffraff and Rocksbox on Instagram!

Stay fabulous, and Have A Wesley Day!
